Fuqua Hardware Recommendations

Below are the minimum requirements for a student’s laptop to enable him or her to complete course related work with minimal impact on computer performance.

Note: The Help Desk is only able to support laptops with English operating systems

  • Operating System:
    • Windows 10
    • Mac OS 12 (Monterey) or later
  • Processor Speed: Minimum i5 for both Windows and Mac. Preferred: i7 for both
  • Memory: 8 GB minimum, however, if buying a new laptop, we recommend maxing out the RAM. If you are an MQM student, we recommend 16 GB minimum.”
  • Hard Drive: 250 GB. Preferred: 500 GB or greater
  • Wireless: 802.11 b/g/n

Windows 10 and Office 2019 are the versions that will be installed on all classroom and lab computers. It is required that all students have this version of Office installed on their computers. The software is available as a free download to all students. More information on how to obtain and install this software is available on the software page.

Note: If you are considering switching from a PC to a Mac, remember you’re about to embark on a very intense time in your life. Now is not necessarily a good time to start learning a new operating system. In other words, if you are currently a PC user and are not familiar with working with a Mac and its software, now may not be the best time to start.
